Nicky Griffith is a Cellist and Instrumental teacher based in Brisbane, Australia. Recent years have seen her work with an extensive list of Orchestras, Chamber ensembles and Musical Theatre companies across Queensland and overseas.
An active member of the Queensland Youth Orchestras (QYO), she currently fulfils the role of Chamber Music Concert Co-Ordinator, and performs as a Cellist with the Queensland Youth Symphony (QYS). This in conjunction with playing for the University of Queensland Symphony Orchestra (UQSO), leads to regular performances at the Queensland Performing Arts Centre (QPAC), Concert Hall. Nicky also currently performs with the Pulse Chamber Orchestra and has worked with chamber groups including Louise King’s Cello Dreaming ensemble, the Hansen Trio, Strings of Gold and the Harmonescence Quartet, to name a few.
A member of the North Queensland Barrier Reef Orchestra in 2012 and Principal Cellist of the Queensland Philharmonia Orchestra (QPO) for 2013, Nicky has since augmented with orchestras including the Toowoomba Concert Orchestra (TCO), Moreton Bay Symphony Orchestra (MBSO) and MBSO Youth Symphony, as well as the Aotea Youth Symphony in Auckland and Tawa Community Orchestra in Wellington, New Zealand. She has had the privilege of playing under the baton of esteemed conductors including John Curro AM MBE, Johannes Fritzch, Sean O'Boyle AM, Guy Noble, James Morrison AM, Mario Dobernig and Dr. Warwick Potter.
Coupled with her innate love of music is a passion for theatre, which has spurred involvement in a long list of musical productions with companies including Queensland Musical Theatre, Savoyards Musical Comedy Society, SQUIDS Theatrical Inc, Redcliffe Musical Theatre, Ignatians Musical Theatre, Pine Rivers Musical Association, Toowoomba Choral Society, Townsville Choral Society and North Queensland Opera and Musical Theatre.
Nicky is currently studying with Patrick Murphy (Southern Cross Soloists) at the University of Queensland, School of Music, nearing the completion of her Bachelor of Music, majoring in performance.
